    Tactics such as captivating the audience, using literary devices, creating an outline and draft, and many other rules can be helpful in creating a good article. However, using these rules as a focal point for writing can be problematic. Mike Rose identifies how misuse of rules can lead to writers' block; he also suggests how to prevent this from happening by using the rules as guidelines rather than actual rules. This will help ensure good writing without the stress of writer's block. Anne Lamott advocates creating several first drafts because “almost all good writing begins with terrible first efforts” (Lamott 530). Although creating multiple first drafts is not a rule of writing, it can significantly improve writing. According to Lamott and Clark, respectable authors do not always strictly use the rules and yet become successful novelists. Placing excessive importance on writing rules can be detrimental and cause writing difficulties. However, when these rules are considered more as guidelines, it can raise many issues when writing and lead to successful.
