  • Essay / The Importance of Music - 714

For someone so young, how does he make such powerful music? Maybe it's not just because he's well educated, but because his heart tells stories (Kelley, Frannie, JCOCWHS). Using personal stories like mentioning Tiffany in “Born Sinner” or dropping her role model in “Let Nas Down” gives that authenticity. Most songwriters in our society today ask others to write their music or come up with a repetitive idea. And with his life there, the art of how he puts his words together was like therapy as he said; “those verses on this album were literally like therapy” (Kelley, Frannie, JCOCWHS). So rather than just being a catchy song to listen to, it became a tool for discussing one's deepest thoughts and feelings and those of others who have experienced the same thing in hopes of bring at least some resolution or closure. For years, music has helped people through difficult times and this type of music that J. Cole produces could attest to that. So this indicates that more rappers should follow in the footsteps of these brilliant artists. Take advantage of what you have and make a change with it
