Ads appear everywhere in our lives. Whether you are on the computer, watching television, driving, or reading propaganda, you observe advertisements. They are constantly changing our opinions and they do it with three simple tactics. Ethos, logos and pathos, people have been using the rhetorical system for 1,000 years, literally because the rhetorical approach was created by Aristotle. This has stood the test of time and remains the best tactic for convincing people to do something. This advertising and marketing uses rhetoric and has some success. I will analyze Ram's advertisement "God created a farmer" and explain how each aspect of the rhetoric was used and what was so effective about this advertisement. Ram's commercial explaining why God created a farmer first aired on Super Bowl Sunday 2013. The commercial began by looking over a field and the narrator begins by saying "and on the eighth day God lowered looked upon his intended paradise and said 'I need a caretaker,' so God made a farmer.” The ad continues from there and only shows photos of farmland, animals, farm equipment, farmers and families. Farmers come in all colors, ages and genders. As the images scroll, the narrator is still speaking in the background, explaining all the reasons why God created a farmer. He needed someone, "willing to sit up all night with a newborn foal, watch it die, dry its eyes and say 'maybe next year'... who will complete a 40 hour week Tuesday at noon, then will suffer the return of the tractor, will put it in place. another 72 hours…someone who would bring a family together…signs and responds with smiling eyes when his son says he wants to spend his life doing what daddy does.” Then at the end is the Ram truck logo and also the FFA...... middle of paper ...... k most people would want to buy products made in the USA rather than foreign products s 'they could. This same argument could also support the philosophy of this ad. Ethos is what makes advertising honorable. The fact that Ram trucks are the ones promoting God made an agricultural commercial is pretty honorable. They're owned by Dodge, and like I said, they're American owned and created. People generally think good thoughts when they come to mind. That's why this ad uses emotional fallacies and pathos for its adventure. So yes, Ram did a great job with the “God Made a Farmer” commercial. They cover the rhetorical aspects of the ads very carefully as well as your errors to further support the argument. The emotional appeal is what really sold the ad and the fact that it aired on Super Bowl Sunday when almost the entire country was watching on television..
