Essay / Understanding the Country of Cambodia - 2540
Cambodia is located in Southeast Asia. If you're trying to locate Cambodia on a map, look next to the Gulf of Thailand, between Vietnam, Laos and Thailand. Compared to the United States, Cambodia is slightly smaller than the state of Oklahoma (The World Factbook, 2014). To understand a country, it is important to be informed not only about its geographical location. In this article, I will cover some of Cambodia's history, education, political affiliations, Cambodian economy and much more. Cambodia's economy has experienced steady growth over the past ten years. Cambodia is popular for its tourism and agricultural industry. Apparel manufacturing and construction saw a more than 6% increase in gross domestic production between 2010 and 2012 (The World Factbook, 2014). The clothing industry has more than four hundred thousand Cambodian employees. Tourism has increased by almost two million people per year since 2007. Even with enormous economic growth, as noted above, Cambodia's people continue to struggle. In fact, thirty-seven percent of Cambodian children under the age of five suffer from malnutrition. More than fifty percent of the population is under the age of twenty-five (The World Factbook, 2014). To understand why Cambodia's economy is growing, but the population is still suffering, we need to look at other aspects of the country. The limited political power of mainland Southwest Asia is reduced in part to the current territory. The Cambodian territorial state included a large part of the Indochinese mainland. In the 11th and 13th centuries, much of southern Vietnam, Laos, and eastern Thailand were included. Much of the country's history and regional context comes from Laos... middle of article......gh who acquired the knowledge (Chandler, 1996). What is interesting about Cambodian Buddhists is that they believe in reincarnation. The dead were usually cremated after a detailed procession. Ceremonies in memory of the dead organized on the seventh and hundredth days after death (Chandler, 1996). Understanding Cambodian culture involves being educated on multiple topics that affect the Cambodian people. Although Cambodia is comparable in size to Oklahoma, it has a huge history with its education system, which has completely changed over the years. Religious beliefs, particularly Buddhism, are predominant in Cambodia. From the outside, it can be difficult to see the growth of the Cambodian economy, but tourism and manufacturing have greatly boosted this area. It is a combination of these topics, which provides a complete understanding of life in Cambodia..
