Essay / The effects of global warming - 1782
Effects of global warmingWith the rise in temperature, the controlled equilibrium of temperature is disturbed. It has a profound impact on the water cycle (hydrological cycle), promoting melting glaciers, rising sea levels, increased wildfires, increased insect-borne diseases, increasing temperature-related illnesses and changing weather severity (YouTube). .Sea level riseWarm temperature promotes thermal expansion of water. Global warming has favored thermal expansions of seawater. With thermal expansion, the volume of water has increased and sea level has risen. This is also due to melting continental glaciers which filled the oceans with more water (ravi). Over the past 3,000 years, the average sea level rise has been only 0.4 to 0.8 inches. However, in the 20th century sea level rise is approximately 8 inches (Hilderman, p61). Melting Arctic Ice Arctic glaciers not only retain fresh water in the form of ice, but also maintain the temperature of the region. With the increase in temperature, the Arctic ice melts and can no longer cover the ocean (Astill, p2). Arctic ice traps methane beneath the surface. As the ice melts and the methane trapped beneath the ice surface escapes (Hilderman, p61). Absence of ice formation on the ocean surface in winter. Due to global warming, winters are inefficient and last shorter periods. The temperature in winter does not reach a certain level. Thus, a tin ice layer forms on the oceans or, in some regions, there is no ice formation on the ocean surface in winter. The ice formation process in winter and the ice melting process in summer are effective in providing oxygen to ocean creatures. Without this process, the oxygen supply...... middle of paper ...... e melts northward." The Economist (2012): 1-4. Bulletin, Manila. "The Kyoto Pact on global warming comes into force.
