The theories behind career guidance are diverse. The predominant factors in employment are money, personal satisfaction and the ability to succeed. In Naomi's case, we need to help her determine whether her life dissatisfaction is directly related to her job or whether she is considering possible job changes due to her personal problems. For Naomi, we must consider that her life has overlapping roles regarding her personal responsibilities and her professional life which can be considered part of the life stages model (Zunker, 2012). In either case, the facts are that she has determined that at this point in her life she wants to seek career services and whatever reason she is seeking career guidance is up to the counselor to provide her with the services she requests. Using Super's Career and Life Stage Theory will allow the counselor to consider several factors that affect Naomi's work and personal life.
