There are both leaders and followers in this world, no matter who you are, it is undeniable that without leaders, society would collapse. Leadership as defined in the dictionary is "a person who guides or directs a group", although accurate, this simple phrase does not do justice to the importance of leadership. People need guidance and someone to look up to, and the most important thing is whether you are born with leadership or acquire it the way you use it. There are and have been many impressive leaders in this world, but the one that stands out is Nelson Mandela. Born into the Madiba tribe of South Africa, a name he later adopted, he is known for his philanthropy, his strong political influence and his revolutionary status in the fight against apartheid in South Africa. He is a shining example of ideal leadership, not only because of the impact he had, but also the radically different way he handled things for his time. He preached compassion, forgiveness and determination, which made him South Africa's first black president, reigning from 1994 to 1999. His death in December caused grief but also a celebration of the wonderful influential life he enjoyed. This union of people demonstrated how many lives he touched and the living presence he brought wherever he went, which is why he will forever be known as one of the best leaders, the one who truly defines leadership in the most truthful way. Madiba embodies many people. and almost all the characteristics necessary to be a successful leader, while providing less conventional means. One of the traits he exhibited was courage, in fact one of his most famous quotes speaks to this: "I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph of this one. People thought they could trust him because he believed in morally sound things and stood for what would improve the general public. This reassured people by confiding in him or admiring him. In summary, a truly spectacular person was lost in December and the entire world mourned together the loss of an international leader. Nelson Mandela will always be remembered as an upright, assertive, soft-spoken man who embodied leadership qualities such as courage, understanding and communication.
