    Imagine the inability to physically walk or do so without pain, or to sit, or to do any type of daily routine without any sort of constant complications. Whether a person was injured, born with a disability, or a disability is due to aging, there is a way to help treat many complications. Participating in a physical therapy rehabilitation program can help heal an injury through proper and safe exercises to strengthen and prevent further injuries or by learning to change mechanics, which in turn will create a better way to manage routines daily safely and proactively. Physiotherapy can also help prevent or reduce impairments such as the developmental effects of many genetic diseases, congenital disabilities or disabilities due to aging. Physical therapy is a rehabilitation program whose purpose is to aid recovery from surgeries and injuries, and to promote good mechanics and motor functions; relieve pain and restore and maintain physical mobility, strength and quality of life. Physical therapy provides services to individuals and populations to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and functional abilities throughout life. This includes providing services in circumstances where movement and function are threatened by aging, injury, disease, disorder, condition or environmental factors. Functional movement is at the heart of what it means to be healthy (Bates). Physical therapy as a profession began in the late 1800s and early 1900s as a way to facilitate the rehabilitation of patients with polio, which first affected children in the United States in 1894.
