    IntroductionAs an organization looking to expand, having a facility in Scandinavia is an important step in our continued growth. Hiring a new manager for the facility provides the opportunity to develop exciting new strategies within the company. The continued globalization of the organization creates a deeper cultural connection with the new territory. “Globalization has contributed to the spread of mutual cultural understanding and tolerance.” (Okpara, 2008. p 30.) Global businesses face the challenge of managing and developing human resources in a globalized context. International or global resource management is about the global management of individuals, not just the management of expatriates. (Moti, 2011) This article will discuss the key skills and qualifications considered necessary for an overseas assignment for an individual in a management position. I will also identify some challenges that may arise when appointing a new manager in an international location. The Danish government has implemented policies to attract foreign investors and intends to be “the gateway to Scandinavia” (Walden, 2001). For the purposes of this article, it must be assumed that the location of the installation is located in Denmark. QualificationsIn the discussion of essential skills and qualifications for an overseas assignment, the main topics covered are cultural intelligence and expat adaptation.
