In the first stanza the tone is more critical and negative, however in the second stanza Barnett has changed the tone to a more positive tone and shows in depth how society creates an opinion about a person based on their appearance. People have negative opinions about others and therefore may feel better about themselves. So many good people have been killed because of the appearance of their political views and many other reasons. This poem explains how people are so double-minded, saying one thing but doing another. Most people pretend to be so nice and perfect, but a moment later you catch them making fun of someone because they have nothing else to do. Barnett wrote a poem that really makes us think about what society has become and how if we don't act now, it will only get worse. We are the company; we have created an environment in which it is literally impossible to be happy. Every direction you turn, there is something negative happening, something that can ruin your day or your life. If you're not popular, you're classified as a loser, or you're not the captain of the football team, you're not allowed to date the head cheerleader, even if you are in love.
