  • Essay / Book cover on The Chrysalides - 509

    For my independent novel study project, I chose to make a book cover on The Chrysalides. A book cover cannot target a specific audience; however, I built mine to target people ages 12-18. I chose this specific group because the main character, David, is in this group when the story is told; thus, the audience can relate to the characters on a personal level. My visual is very easy to deconstruct. In the lower half of the foreground there is a church, a mountain range, several farms, and a buggy pulled by the large horses mentioned in the book. In the upper half of the foreground, there are several buildings, a billboard, an airplane, and a giant helicopter-like device. There is also a boy I drew to represent David. The boy has a blindfold over his eyes which he has pulled down. This action symbolizes demonstrating to David that the True Picture comes in many forms, including deviations, and that no one knows if there really is a True Picture.
