  • Essay / Can cell phones harm our health? - 963

Is there dangerous radiation coming from our cell phones? In recent years, the use of cell phones has raised concerns about our health. Some people say cell phones are dangerous because they emit harmful radiation. Others say cell phones are safe. However, cell phones emit radio frequency electromagnetic fields of 900 to 1800 MHz during calls, which affects the protein structures of mice and humans (Eid 573). Cell phones can therefore be dangerous for humans. Most studies showing no harm from cell phone use are often industry-funded (Gandhi 38). On the other hand, many studies have been conducted that show that cell phones correlate with harmful effects on the human body and other test subjects like mice. Specifically in the study conducted by F. Eid et al., the results of the experiment showed that there were many changes in plasma proteins and in the eyes of newborn mice. “The study was conducted on a control group, an exposed group that experienced cell phone radiation for forty-five minutes a day for a month, and a group of mice that were exposed to cell phone radiation for forty-five minutes a day for a month, but then observed for the next month without being exposed to cell phone radiation. The control group of mice had fourteen visible protein bands, the exposed group twelve bands, and the recovery group had approximately seventeen protein bands (Eid 576). Additionally, eight of the bands that were part of the control group were no longer part of the exposed group and in the recovery group, there were eleven bands that were part of the control group that were no longer part of the recovery group” (Eid 576 ). results mean there is radiation......middle of paper......impact on male fertility. Since many people own cell phones in today's society, it is important to limit exposure to cell phone radiation. This can be accomplished by calling less and texting more or calling through a different means such as a hands-free device.
