  • Essay / Case study: Keeping it simple? - 1040

Michele created behavior modifications by “combining conditioning and modeling to eliminate undesirable behaviors and increase desirable responses (Berk, 2012, page 17). This was done by praising cooperative students with small rewards and offering them a reward upon completion of a task, such as a celebrity face game or a guessing game. If the class was too disruptive, Michele identified the leader(s) and sent them directly to the executive professor. This was done quickly and unemotionally to show the class that they were not discouraged by the event. Michele also refrained from raising her voice, as she found it caused additional disruption. Instead, she waited for students to regain their attention and took time out of their “play time” if necessary. Michele made sure all of her expectations, rewards and consequences were specific and clear at the start of the day and at the start of each day.
