Mitchell of the UCLA School of Education says, “I think this is great news for all of us who have advocated for school uniforms as a way to build community. » A pressing problem, bullying has become a major problem in many schools, and to eliminate this problem, school policies should require students to wear uniforms. Many people believe that school uniforms create a safer and more positive environment for school. academics, prevent gang violence and help families who cannot afford expensive clothing. Caring more about others than themselves, students pay more attention to the appearance of their peers than to that of their academics. According to the school's policy, students' academic performance would improve phenomenally. Hanley noted that “the reason for this policy [was] to further improve test scores and provide a safe and comfortable learning environment” (A1+). They figured that if students dressed the same way, they would have no choice but to concentrate on their schoolwork. If students could concentrate on their schoolwork, then they would have high self-esteem. Furthermore, Valdez believes that school uniforms, in a positive way, will change students' academic performance: “…[they] decrease self-consciousness and increase self-esteem…” (14). Reasonable and realistic, students who feel better about themselves will succeed in school rather than those who have low self-esteem.
