Essay / Argument for Legalizing Cloning - 2285
The idea of cloning first appeared in 1885. Cloning was first demonstrated when Hans Dreisch in 1888-1894 took two and four cells from sea urchin embryos, isolated them and observed how they became microscopic larvae. In 1901, Hans Spemann took a newt embryo with two cells and divided them into two parts. The result was a clone of the larvae. In 1993, a human embryo was cloned for the first time, and then in 1996, the sheep Dolly was born. It was the first organism derived from adult cells to be cloned. Cloning has been practiced for many years and has many benefits ranging from human health to scientific research. The United States government should deregulate cloning and provide more funding for research and development because cloning is beneficial in finding a cure for cancer and many other degenerative genes. Cloning is the copying of a biological entity; such as a gene, a cell or an entire organism. Human cloning is defined by the American Medical Association (AMA) as the production of genetically identical organisms via nuclear transfer of somatic cells. Cloning humans requires copying the person's DNA or genes, then a duplicate is created genetically. There are two types of human cloning. There is therapeutic cloning and reproductive cloning. Reproductive cloning consists of transferring the cloned embryo into the uterus of a female of the same species, even though the clone does not have chromosomal DNA that is 100% identical to that of its genetic predecessor. Therapeutic cloning is used to help repair defective genes through homologous recombination. As Professor Savulescu says... "Cloning a single skin cell from a patient with a disease could be used to produce inexhaustible quantities of cells and tissues with that disease...... middle of article......his research, so cloning should be deregulated and funded by the government Another advantage of cloning is that it can give couples who cannot reproduce the chance to have. children who are biologically related to them, when they might not It will also help those who are at high risk of passing on a genetic disease they have. Parents could clone one and then reproduce a healthy baby. with their genes This type of cloning is called reproductive cloning Reproduction by cloning is like all other common breeding options and genetic selection practices: it should not be treated differently and given to recipients as an option. Cloning should be deregulated and funded by the US government. The benefits and cures from human cloning are endless and will benefit everyone in one way or another..
