Essay / I'm Mexican and I'm chasing the American dream
Many immigrants face the daily challenge of learning the primary language of a given country, making it difficult for them to communicate with other peers. Communication is the main component of our society, in which everyone is obliged to learn the new language. The American dream is a journey to be accomplished. Immigrants who enter this country come with a dream: they want to pursue “the American dream,” and by pursuing that dream, they will overcome any obstacles that come their way, or so they believe. The American dream is just one that few people of different ethnic backgrounds achieve. For example, Hispanic immigrants migrate to the land of freedom and better opportunities to obtain a life that their home country could not provide. The American dream has become a deceptive dream for many immigrants; this should no longer be the philosophy of the United States. Immigrants are being cheated when it comes to the American dream since it only comes true for those who have money. So it's about letting immigrants realize that education is the only path to success and that the American dream doesn't really exist. “America is a land built by immigrants, a patchwork of different cultures and beliefs. But despite many differences, Americans are united by the promise of a better life” (Forbes, 2007). The American dream can be seen as false advertising to immigrants who have always been trying to obtain it. There isn't really an American dream, it's just motivation to help those trying to accomplish something that doesn't really exist. Immigrants are brought to a country where freedom of speech, religion, economic understanding and fear reign; but doesn't really have anything else to offer them. They...... middle of paper...... yes. Just because we have been stereotyped as a culture of poverty doesn't mean we have to obey it, we should want to do the opposite and know how to give them good things to talk about. Our ancestors gave their lives to try to get future generations to have a better lifestyle than the one they had and what do the majority do to give it up? We are not quitters and should not allow ourselves to be stereotyped into something we are not. However, my father was deceived by the American dream, but I am still chasing the American dream. I've encountered some challenges during this process, but it's better to keep trying rather than just giving up.
