Essay / First Day on the Job - The Skillsusa Review
Every year at SkillsUSA they always have a theme. This year's theme is SkillsUSA: Champions at Work, Job Ready from Day One. What does Job Ready Day One mean? Well, to me, Job Ready Day One means that you already know the materials and tasks that need to be accomplished in your work area. It also means you'll know what to do if something goes wrong. In order to be job-ready from day one, you'll need specific skills and abilities. You will need problem-solving skills, time management abilities, good communication skills, decision-making skills, the ability to work under pressure and the ability to take criticism and learn from it lessons. You need these skills and abilities to be job-ready from day one, because if you don't have them, you won't be hired for any job. Say no to plagiarism. These skills or abilities are important because to solve problems you need to know them, because in the job market employers want you to know these things before they hire you. Time management skills are also important because if you arrive late to your work, you will have to deal with the consequences and also how to open and close your workspace. Good communication skills are also important, because in the job market you will need to know how to talk to bosses, managers and clients. To demonstrate to an employer that you are ready to work from day one, you need to make sure you are there on time for your interview. This is when you show off your time management skills because an employer doesn't want anyone to be late. You want to appear professional and be prepared to answer the questions they are going to ask you. When they ask you questions, you want to use your good communication skills because they don't want someone who is rude and speaks causally. If it's a job that's just about showing work or designs, you'll probably want to be prepared, have a portfolio, and show off the work you've done. In my cosmetology class, we mimic the workforce in many ways. One way is that when we have clients we must have good communication skills because as a cosmetologist we always have to talk to our clients and make sure if they like the way their hair is or if they want something different. Another way is time management, because in cosmetology if you have a client booked for a haircut and a client wants a pedicure, you need to know how long a haircut and pedicure takes and see s he can book for the pedicure. Another way is to handle criticism. In our cosmetology class, everything we do, people will judge our work and see if it is perfect or not. Keep in mind: this is just a sample. In the cosmetology room we need to know how to do this because if something happens when we cut the hair or if there is any drama we need to know how to fix that problem smoothly. At SkillsUSA,..
