    Dear tortured students in Ms. Thornton's class, my name is Mattie Jones. I'm currently learning about American Romanticism. I didn't understand American romanticism as well as I would have liked. I know how bad American romance is, believe me, I do. To help you when you encounter this horrible unit, I will explain my understanding of the American Romantic era. In the story "Dr. The Heidegger Experiment" by Nathaniel Hawthorne, he exhibits many romantic characteristics. “But it was well known for being a book of magic; and one day, when a maid had lifted it, simply to remove the dust, the skeleton had wavered in her study, the image of the young woman had placed one foot on the floor, and several horrible faces were appeared in the mirror; while the brazen head of Hippocrates froudes” (Hawthorne 1). Of this section of "Dr. Heidegger's Experiment", which romantic character does it show best? I think this best shows the romantic nature of the supernatural. The reason I chose supernatural is because I don't think a skeleton could shake and a lady walk on it....
