Essay / Argumentative Essay on Mother Earth - 913
Many people say that the earth is a living planet. As this statement is constantly evolving, it is true. The Earth is always moving, both internally and externally. Whether or not we think it is good for humans to live on a planet that moves, everyone is affected. Indeed, when Mother Earth moves, people around the world will feel it. Mother Earth and its geology present many dangers to human life. These things lie, waiting to be awakened. Events such as tornadoes, tsunamis, hurricanes, and even earthquakes are precisely those events that affect people in a way that changes them forever, whether by taking a life or destroying a home. All of these things are very destructive, but none compare to volcanoes. A volcano is a mountain or hill that has a crater through which lava, rock fragments, hot steam, and gas are or have been emitted from the earth's crust, as stated in Webster's Dictionary. They form when magma from Earth's upper mantle pushes its way toward the crust. This accumulates and forms a magma chamber. Over time, it grows and a volcano is created. They hold burning lava in their stomachs waiting for the right moment to release it. Volcanoes are both incredibly dangerous and extremely destructive. There are literally countless volcanoes on earth; however, many of these volcanoes do not pose a threat because they are either dormant or extinct. Vesuvius is an active volcano; However, before discussing this volcano, it is necessary to talk about the deliberation on the types of volcanoes. There are three different types of life erupting from volcanoes: extinct, dormant and active. (Timothy Oleson)An extinct volcano is one that has not erupted since...... middle of paper ...... released. When it finally releases, it is volatile and very explosive. Mount Vesuvius is a composite volcano, or stratovolcano, and that's why it had such a big explosion. Other famous composite volcanoes include: Mount Fuji in Japan, Mount Shasta and Mount Lassen in California, Mount Hood in Oregon, Mount St. Helens and Mount Rainier in Washington, and Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines. (Jeffrey Kluger) The final type of volcanic composition is cinder cone volcanoes. Cinder cone volcanoes are different from shield and composite volcanoes because cinder cone volcanoes only reach about a thousand feet and usually erupt from numerous openings. Famous cinder cones include Paricutin in Mexico and the one in the middle of Crater Lake. Volcanoes, regardless of their appearance or type, can be very devastating when they erupt. (Jeffrey Kluger)
