Myths and legends have definitely made their way through history that everyone knows. They represent the world around us, our ideas and our stories. There are all types of mythology throughout the world and many things today are based on them. Almost every region of the world has a mythology. We pass down myths and legends throughout history and through all types of people to explain something. Myths are exactly the same as legends. The majority of legends are based on real events that took place in the past, while myths are usually stories created to teach people something or explain why something happens. Myths and legends have been passed down from person to person over very long periods of time. Eventually, around 700 BC, we wrote them down rather than just telling others about them. Greek mythology is something that almost everyone knows; You may not know everything about all the gods and goddesses, but I'm sure you've heard of them. Myths and legends have been around for hundreds of thousands of years, and for many people it is very interesting to know what types of myths or legends came from specific time periods. 1 BC and before was a long time ago and yes, myths and legends existed at that time. People told them to others; they were passed down just as we pass stories down to each other today. Most of us have all heard of the Odyssey even if we don't know exactly what it was about. The Odyssey is a poem written by Homer around 800-700 BC. The poem is about Odysseus and his journey home after the fall of Troy. The poem was read in Homeric Greek and was eventually translated into the vernacular of people in different places around the world.
