  • Essay / The September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on America:...

The September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on America divided two nations, but nevertheless brought one closer together like the attacks on Pearl Harbor . Many events led up to 9/11 and are just the beginning. The World Trade Center attacks in 2001 were the end point. George Bush wrote in his diary: “The Pearl Harbor of the 21st century happened today…” (George Bush). This attack was a surprise, much like Pearl Harbor, but the United States responded quickly and effectively. The Horrible Events Today, more than a decade later, the September 11 attacks still affect our lives today. Before the September 11 attacks, there were bad vibes between the United States and the Middle East. The United States and its allies abroad have been the victims of numerous attacks. There was even a bombing of the World Trade Center on February 26, 1993. After that, there were attacks that killed a total of 53 Americans. The FBI also reported that in 1998, Osama bin Laden declared a holy war against the United States. The same year, he reportedly declared: “kill Americans wherever they are” (Fox News). After these threats, few decisions were made about how to protect the United States. There have been debates, but no major changes in national security. No major changes occurred before the attacks. September 11, 2001 was an ordinary day in the United States. The sky was clear in New York and the temperature was in the sixties. The entire city was starting its Tuesday morning workday, which meant an early morning rush hour. The day changed completely at 8:46 a.m., when a plane hit the World Trade Center. These strange events continued throughout the day, with planes crashing into the other World Trade Center at 9:03 a.m., and another into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. There was a... middle of paper...... information about the rescue and recovery processes. Finally, there is a section where all the names of people who died on or because of 9/11 are listed. “Timeline: Key events leading to 9/11”. Fox News. Np, and Web. January 22, 2014. “Flight Attendant Betty Ong Transcript.” Global issues in competition. Np, and Web. February 5, 2014. Villemez, Jason and Dalia Mortada. "Timeline of the September 11 attacks and subsequent events through October 24, 2001." George Washington University. Np, and Web. January 20. 2014. .
