Essay / Essay on the Decline of the Mayan Civilization - 1310
The center of the ancient Mayan Empire was in the geographic area of what is now Guatemala. The Mayans reached their peak around the 6th century AD and were known for their stunning architecture, their Mayan calendar system, and their form of complex symbolic writing called hieroglyphics. The Mayans were the creators of gigantic and fascinating stone cities that still exist today in Central America. These cities were abandoned by the Mayan civilization around 900 AD, and scholars have debated the reasoning behind the decline of this fascinating and powerful empire ever since. The Mayan civilization was one of the most dominant indigenous societies Mesoamerica has ever been home to; How did such a large and powerful society decline and disappear? But therein lies the problem: there was simply no evidence of the decline of the Maya. One day, the most powerful civilization of the ancient world was no longer there, it disappeared. People think, after many, many years of research, that a lot of things changed within the empire, but they can't come up with a reason big enough to wipe out an entire civilization. It is said that overpopulation was becoming a problem, frequent skirmishes with nearby warring clans were said to have forced some Mayans to leave their cities, and perhaps the main reason was that game in the area had declined significantly and food was scarce. difficult to find. I suppose without food it would be difficult to maintain a civilization. Unfortunately, I'm no closer to finding an answer than when I asked the same question in the first paragraph. I've done a lot of research and just can't seem to find an answer to this unsolved mystery. The Mayans were a people who seemed to act together. They were inventive and resourceful in many ways. Inventions such as observatories were created by the Mayans and are still in use today, perhaps slightly updated, but nonetheless created by the power of the ancient world. These people were wise beyond their years and it is completely fascinating. They invented forms of natural medicine, they enhanced the characteristics of their children when they were born to create the assets they thought their children would need to survive in this world. They were also one of the first people to experiment with hallucinogenic drugs. During the day the medicines were used as painkillers for healing and in the evening they were used in their religious rituals. For all of these reasons, the Mayans were considered an intelligent culture, which would lead us to believe that incredibly strange events must have occurred for such a culture to exist..
