Essay / Syria - 749
As violence continues to destroy Syria, the international community has yet to find a way to resolve the civil war. The rebels want to free themselves from the Assad family regime which has lasted for forty years. With the help of Hezbollah and Iran, Assad has been able to maintain power and is not holding back when it comes to fighting the rebels. The rebels continue to fight back and will not stop until they free themselves. The international community did not intervene to help the rebels get rid of the dictator Assad. Each country had its reasons and it was very difficult to convince them to join the cause. America has a very big influence on the United Nations and if it does something, many countries will join. Even if America provides humanitarian aid, its forces would be much more effective. America chose not to participate in military operations due to its experience in Iraq, Libya, financial reasons and finally the whole controversial issue of aiding Al Qaeda again. The United Kingdom is another country providing humanitarian aid. The UK was set to enter Syria, but Parliament rejected the chance. They recognize the opposition forces as the only legitimate representatives of the Syrian people and provide them with practical support. The European Union has provided millions of dollars in humanitarian aid and assistance. They provide relief, food aid, shelter and protection. France is another country that no longer recognizes the Syrian government and is aiding the main opposition. France has recently had difficulty providing humanitarian aid. They are experiencing financial difficulties and must for the moment concentrate on their own country. Norway and Germany helped put a law in place on paper. This has allowed more people to support Assad, even if the rebels simply want to get rid of him. The rebels have no intention of respecting Islamic law since many of them are not fundamental followers. The United Nations must intervene and end the war. Sanctions are not enough and military action must be taken to get rid of Assad. He kills his people and destroys his country to maintain his power. Since Russia and China will prevent the Security Council from doing anything, there must be other ways to end this brutal war. The United Nations must come together and help the rebels. If the rebels do not continue to fight, Assad will maintain his rule and end up treating around 70% of his population inhumanely. The rebels have no choice but to free themselves because the situation will only get worse if they fail..
