Long Road To PeaceWhen someone hears the word "hippie", they are more likely to think of the Forrest Gump scene or even the groupies who followed the Beatles from head to toe. . Hippie culture is much more than that. Some aspects of this sub-rebel culture are the concept of free love – you know, that bumper sticker that says “make love, not war”? It would be a relic of the 1960s and 1970s. The hippie lifestyle was strange to older generations, which created the phenomenon of the “generation gap” (Feinstein). Younger people, in their early to mid-20s, began to embrace the “counterculture” of using marijuana and LSD to free their minds and connect with nature. Typically, traditional hippie attire was ripped, bell-bottom blue jeans with tie-dyed shirts, long hair, and headbands. Community living was a lesser known part of the culture. Young hippies who wanted to “connect with nature” settled in rural communities where other hippies resided.
