  • Essay / Solution to Today's Global Economy: Judaism and...

In the essay “Judaism and Economic Reform,” Norman Solomon, a Jewish American journalist, makes a compelling argument based on the need for economic reform while providing simple religiously based solutions. While discussing two major economic issues plaguing today's global economy, Salomon presents the Jewish view of the global economy and their general view of the economy as a whole. With this introduction to the Jewish worldview of economics, we, the readers, are able to understand Solomon's educational solutions and use Jewish law to improve the current state of the global economy. Although Solomon's ideas about education and using Jewish law to improve the global economy seem logical, Sallie McFague, a Christian theologian, offers a different but similar view on improving the global economy in his essay “New House Rules: Christianity, Economics, and Planetary.” Life". His discussion of ecological and neoclassical economics compels the reader to return to Solomon's essay to analyze his methods of repairing the current global economy. Sallies McFague's discussion of ecological and neoclassical economics of the point from a Christian perspective is an eye-opening experience because it demonstrates the two possible dynamics of our global economy Neoclassical economic dynamics “views human beings on the planet as a collection of individuals brought together to benefit from each other by fully exploiting natural resources. ” while ecological economic dynamics “see the planet as a community that survives and thrives only through the interdependence of all its parts, human and non-human” (McFague states that today's global economy is). neoclassical, which is a system detrimental to ...... middle of paper ...... which will certainly provide a better economy to these third world countries, but the only drawback is that it will not be a short-term effect. Finally, McFague, in his essay, proposes a reasonable solution of ecological economics in which everyone mutually forgets their personal interest and understands that everyone depends on each other. Ultimately, no solution will work unless both categories of economic countries understand their position and start working together.
