Practical Guidelines for Curriculum Selection and DesignIt is clear that there is no single type of content that is appropriate for all teaching contexts, and the needs and conditions of each context are so particular that it is impossible to give specific recommendations for the combination. However, a set of guidelines for the process can be proposed. The steps to follow in preparing a choice of practical language teaching program can be named as follows:1. Define and estimate, as far as possible, what outcomes are desired for students in the teaching program or in a course, that is, what students should be able to do through teaching. 2. Rank the types of programs presented in the previous item based on their likelihood of leading to the desired results. Arrange the six types to show the level of preference you will give to each type.3. Evaluate the resources available for teaching, needs analysis, selection and production of materials and teacher training.4. Rank programs based on available resources. It is necessary to decide which types of programs would be easiest to use in practice, taking into account available resources.5. Compare the established lists that are the results of steps two and four. If necessary, add some regulations to the previous list; present a new ranking list which would be based on the availability of resources.6. Indicate one or two types of programs as dominant and give minor importance to one or two types of programs as secondary.7. Review the question of combining or integrating types of programs and define how it is possible to achieve these combinations and in what proportion.
