High school and college dropout rates have never been higher. Throughout high school, high school students are told that if they don't go to college, they will never succeed. Going to college doesn't always make a difference, because many career choices, such as teaching or lawyering, are highly contested and result in either no job or low pay. Low salaries discourage teachers' motivation and they tend to work part-time to supplement their income. Public school standards are comparable to the proceedings of a kangaroo court; Private schools are known for their best teachers, environment, and test scores. Major problems with the public school system include lack of funding, lack of resources, and lack of standards. Money Problems A major problem with public schools is lack of funding, and it seems like no one tracks the money once it arrives at the school. . Students and staff suffer from lack of money in schools. I went to a very poor middle school called Bishop-Spaugh Middle School. In middle school, students almost never had homework because they didn't have books. Teachers at this school were also forced to purchase many essential items such as paper, markers and erasers because the school did not have enough money to provide them with the supplies. The money given to schools is not managed properly. In the movie The Cartel, $1 billion was given to a construction company to build and improve schools. However, a few years passed and the company never built a single structure and the money disappeared. No one knew where the money had gone (Ventures). The same people in charge when the money disappeared remained in charge for a very long time. However, the people responsible for making the changes are the ones who benefit from them and will likely never change their mindset. The school system needs to be completely changed, but the solutions to this problem simply do not exist. Experiments must be carried out in certain school systems to determine the most effective method. Until then, the United States of America will continue to prop up a failing school system and continue to produce uneducated adults.
