  • Essay / Addressing Rape Culture: Victim Blaming and Stereotyping

A poll by The Atlantic shows that most college presidents know that rape is widespread at American universities. But yet they refuse to admit that this could be a problem in itself. However, they believe they are doing a good job helping rape victims. How can you believe that you are competent enough to solve a problem that you don't even recognize exists in your school? As long as the fine print says their university gets an A+ score on rape prevention, who cares about the hundreds of victims who still don't get it? Students have to go to great lengths just to be aware of the problem. Emma Sulkowicz carried her mattress around her campus to graduation and her rapist still hasn't been prosecuted. Anna, in the previously mentioned case, spoke out about her rapist and received threats rather than support because she was accusing a popular senior footballer. His school does its best to silence everyone.
