In The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby goes through a mental phase that drives him completely crazy. He's not the only character to go through this phase. Most of the main characters have been through this and ended up hurting themselves. This caused everyone to experience a mental journey. Nick Carraway stayed away when he sensed drama was going to happen. This kept him from losing his mind and allowed him to see others go crazy. Gatsby was one of many witnesses that Nick had seen going through a mental phase. It all started when Gatsby met Daisy. This is where everything went wrong for Gatsby, when he joined the wrong group of people. Everything could have been better if Gatsby had stayed away from Daisy. Daisy already had a husband, Tom Buchanan. Gatsby should have stayed away from a married woman and Daisy should have avoided having an affair with Gatsby. Mentally, this made Tom insecure and jealous, but he knew he couldn't do anything about it because he was doing the same thing. That would make Tom a hypocrite. G...
