It showed how Mexicans were treated by society, and they all spoke Spanish and worked together. The characters attached to the labels were creations of the company (Glassvisage). Valdez describes the prejudice that all Americans feel the need to be superior to others and to be in control (Glassvisage). Glassvisage states that Honest Sancho's used car lot in the play, titled "Honest Sancho's Used Mexican Lot", compares Mexicans to objects, which is how they probably felt when they were stereotyped (Glassvisage). Honest Sancho sells robots representing Mexicans to Americans and describes them in technical terms. The last sentence of the play is that of the revolutionary who describes the robot Sancho as "It's the best model we have!" » (Glassface). Mexicans realize that if no action is taken, more names will be created and prejudices will persist, and people's mentalities will only renew themselves as society changes (Glassvisage). Glassvisage states that Miss Jimenez comes to the used car lot looking for a Mexican for Governor Reagan's administration, decides they are not up to the job, and represents the similar attitude of some people when they see a skin color or hear an accent; automatic stereotyping (Glassvisage 2). The author states that many people are judgmental and often don't realize it at the time. Valdez knew that Mexicans faced these prejudices, but that didn't mean they were... middle of paper......
