Essay / How My Interest in Knowledge Was Awakened - 1227
Some of my earliest memories are of being told not to ask so many questions. I wasn't curious why there were clouds or what made the rainbows. I wanted to know why people behaved in certain ways. What made one person behave differently from another? Why was one family able to face so much turmoil in their lives while another family fell apart? I would ask all kinds of questions. This behavior became so prevalent in me that people would say, “Oh no, here are his 50 questions.” » My interest in personalities increased as I got older. I wanted to know if they were formed from our past experiences, our environment or if they were completely biological. I have read many accounts of identical (monozygotic) twins who grew up in different households. I concluded that it was a combination of biology, experiences, and environment that created our personalities and habits. This knowledge piqued my interest and led me to investigate societies at both macro and micro levels. I focused most of my reading on the themes of poverty, drug use, and disadvantaged people. I had known about these areas since I was a teenager and was beginning to question many of these topics in my own life. My curiosity led me to investigate why a very small percentage of people manage to escape poverty and drug addiction while another percentage do not. I wondered what the differences were between the two populations that pushed one to leave and the other to stay in these situations. The majority of individuals grew up in the same environment. The deciding factor must have been either a difference in their biological elements or in their past experiences. Throughout my research using biographies or documentaries, I began to notice the pre...... middle of article.......The Medical Sociology course sparked my interest in helping people facing health problems throughout their lives. Today, the need for social workers in this specialty is enormous. Health laws are constantly evolving. Through various researches, new technologies are created and many new treatment options become available to people. We need social workers who can connect seniors and their families to community resources, new treatments and lifesaving information. My goal is to help people understand that they are not alone no matter what situation or event arises in their lives. There are resources available and others who have similar experiences. Someone understands. Everyone can and is capable of living a healthy and vibrant life. It's okay to ask questions, express feelings, and appreciate who they are throughout their lives..
