Essay / Wicca, a religion based on Earth and gods - 1489
Wicca is an Earth-based religion with gods and goddesses. There is no central leadership because each person's journey is different from each other. The perspective of the person who has diverse backgrounds, views on the world around them as well as a personal connection to the goddess/god. There are people who practice alone and who are called solitary. There are people who practice in a coven, just like in a church. In a coven, there are diplomas to be earned to become High Priest or High Priestess. You are an initiation into the coven to become a first degree which lasts one year and one day. There are more qualifications to obtain to lead the training to become a High Priest or High Priestess. The witch is preferred over both the male and female Wiccans. Warlock is not used unless a member betrays their clan or the pagan community. Some people in the Pagan community believe that Wicca predated Christianity. In pre-Christian times, there were many practices of gods and goddesses from cultures that had a healer or witch queen. Witchcraft is believed to date back twenty or thirty thousand years to the Paleolithic era. Wicca or witchcraft Christians believe that witches worship the devil and practice the left hand of black magic. The reason is to believe that witches worship the devil, it is because of the Horned God of the ancient religion. “Psalm 96: All the gods of the pagans are demons. » There is no mention of the Devil in the New Testament. This is why Christians are led to believe that they are turning witches or pagans into Christians. Through Scripture, Christians are taught to avoid the fear and years of misunderstanding of Wicca, as well as other pagan religions. This is how the elders of the Christian church made people believe... middle of paper... good. The Church gave me no answers but taught me to be silent in my youth. I believe that everyone should have some form of spirituality within them. I think if we were more tolerant of each other in their different beliefs, wars in the name of their religion would never have happened. Religious wars have been going on for decades. This type of behavior will only continue until we “humans” teach the next generation to be more tolerant and less judgmental. Humans are such judgmental creatures that I am judged every day because I am Wiccan. I have to remind them “A person who judges should not live in a glass house and throw stones at me” Works Cited (Cunningham, 2007) (Farrar, 1981, 1984) (Deer@pagani, 2000) (VCU, 2013) (Gardner, 1954)(Linder, 2005)(Buckland, 1996)(Birch, 2014)(Buckland R. , 2002)
