On Sunday March 30, 2014, MC202 teaching assistants organized a viewing of the documentary film The Square. This documentary is based on the 2011 uprising that took place in Tahrir Square in Cairo, Egypt. It is seen through the eyes of six main characters who live in Cairo and contribute to the revolutionary movement. In the film, each person is united by idealism and the hope of achieving a democratic nation and changing the dictator-like government. The brave camera operators are able to capture a first-person view directly from the front lines of this revolution, filming from street level and high-rise buildings to view the great mass of people gathered in Tahrir Square. This same group of people often finds themselves in the square for the government to hear their voice and bring about change that meets the interests of the people. The film focuses on three events that forced people to gather in the square, including the removal of dictator Hosni Mubarak, the protest against military rule, and then the uprising against the presidency. ...
