The Bull Moose Party considers this a huge success because ending women's suffrage achieved the Progressives' original goals. Progress has been made and steps towards equality have been taken. The 17th Amendment also improved democracy; voters were now allowed to directly elect senators. These amendments romanticized what progressivism was. The Progressives achieved many of their initial goals and enacted numerous laws and several amendments. Progressives fought for a more democratic and egalitarian society, but there were still leaders of progressive parties who were white supremacists. Did they achieve all the goals they initially wanted? No, because of the diversity of politicians and citizens who made up the Progressive Party, there were very few uniform goals. The Bull Moose Party has indeed achieved its goal of “progress,” but not all of the progress made has been beneficial. “The envisaged reforms did not necessarily produce the expected results” (Madaras, SoRelle 136). There have been amendments like the 18th Amendment that were only passed for a few years before being abolished. The Muckrakers have been extremely successful in rooting out and exposing political corruption. “Progressives were the first group to confront the problems of modern America” (Madaras, SoRelle 136).
