Essay / Interdependence Liberalism in China-US Relations
IntroductionChina-US trade relations are becoming a major concern because they show the economic interaction between the world's largest economy and the second largest economy. Since China joined the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2001, its economic performance has increased significantly. Therefore, Sino-US trade relations from 2001 to 2011 will be explored in the following sections. Generally speaking, China-US relations are peaceful in terms of interdependence liberalism. From the perspective of Marxism, this is an asymmetrical relationship. Application of Interdependence Liberalism in Sino-US Trade Relations Interdependence Liberalism Karrbo and Ray (2010) define liberalism as “a theoretical perspective emphasizing interdependence between states and sub-state actors as a characteristic key to international relations. system” (p.6). International business is driven by a deep faith in reason and rational principles (Toru, 2013). Long-term cooperation is preferable due to mutual benefit (Toru, 2013). For interdependence liberalism, interdependence reduces conflict between states. During the modernization process, the level of interdependence increases. Trade increases interstate interdependence and economic interdependence leading to political integration and peace (Toru, 2013). The costs of using force have increased and the benefits have decreased, as military force has become a less useful political instrument (Toru, 2013). States are more concerned with economic and social affairs. They cooperate together to achieve a goal. Economic dependence between international players is mainly reflected in the volume of trade between players, the number of foreign investments, imports and exports represent the proportion of GDP, net capital flows between...... middle of paper ... ...wages. Workers must work under military leadership. They suffer from high pressure. As a result, more than 20 workers committed suicide in those years (SACOM, 2011). Based on the above-mentioned evidence, China-US trade relations are asymmetric. China cannot obtain reasonable returns under the US-led global capitalist system. Upward mobility is reduced, which limits China's development. ConclusionTo conclude, Sino-US relations are peaceful. But the global capitalist system creates a center-periphery relationship that places the United States on the upper stage while China is on the lower stage. China is unable to cope with it. This causes conflicts between China and the United States. However, in the face of the prevailing global trend of seeking peace, China and the United States will do their best to resolve economic conflicts through soft means. China's status will be improved in the future.
