    Located on the Pacific coast, El Salvador is the smallest and most populous country in Central America. United States foreign policy toward El Salvador is best explained by President Obama's approach to Latin America, where the United States focuses on economic growth and equality, energy and climate control, as well as regional and citizen security (Foreign Policy, 2012). This is best explained using the international level of analysis and neoliberalism where global structure and economic interdependence form the foundation of American foreign policy. To ensure that one can see the transparency of the US methodology, I will recount the history of El Salvador, the creation of US interest in El Salvador and finally the current agreements and the results they offer to both nations . Before I get to the important aspects of the article, I will define some of the essential terms to ensure that the order in which I give this essay will make sense as well as the policy terms that I provide. First, proponents of “neoliberalism” advocate the global development of democracy, open markets and free trade (Papp, 2005).
