  • Essay / Reflecting on Gender Identity - 2417

I have had many bisexual and gay friends. I've experienced bisexuality before, but I don't think homosexuality is for me. Marrying a woman, I think, would make me want to know more. I have needs that a woman cannot fulfill, including sexual satisfaction. I don't think I've ever met transgender people. I never understood transgender people. Like I said earlier, I was never really like the typical girls. I like men's shirts and jeans. I also like doing things that men do, but I still consider myself a woman. So this makes no sense to me. Maybe I would understand better if I were a man and acted and dressed like a woman. I've seen a lot of headlines in the news recently about transgender kids in schools. These headlines are mostly about transgender children using bathrooms or locker rooms of the gender with which they identify. This might sound bad, but I have a problem with it. Not only can this lead to a lot of problems in the future, like boys pretending to be transgender to get into the girls' locker room, but it could end up putting kids at risk of seeing something they shouldn't see or, worse yet, some sort of sexual misconduct. I think they should be treated fairly; however, I do not agree with letting an anatomically male person into a locker room or bathroom with my teenage daughter and vice versa. I think they should have a private bathroom or changing room or just use the rooms for their gender. My husband is not going to go into my daughter's room with her and put on her workout clothes. (people would be up in arms if this happened) Why should we be allowed to do this in school? We could go further and say: let's make all bathrooms and locker rooms co-ed. It sounds ridiculous, but it's the same thing and it's unacceptable. We have separate lockers and toilets for boys and girls, which is not considered discriminatory. Why not add these rooms to
