In the pageant, Olive is backstage with other pageant contestants. At first, she feels shy because all the other contestants look elegant with their tanned bodies, scandalous dresses, and overused makeup. Even one of the contestants was parading around like she had some sex appeal while sticking her tongue out. Olive feels like a boring girl and is always worried about her appearance. When she's on stage, she feels like she doesn't dress nicely enough, and when she looks in the mirror, she feels fat. Although before her performance, her father and brother did not want Olive to perform because it would embarrass her and the audience would turn on her. Her brother Dwayne said: "She's not a beauty queen." Yet her mother protests, saying, “Olive is who she is, she works so hard she puts everything into it, we can’t take it away from her.” Olive goes on and does her performance by doing a dance routine that her grandfather shows her. While she was doing her performance, her parents were speechless and shocked at how raunchy her dance routine was as she ripped off her button-up blouse, so similar to the movie called Striptease with Demi Moore. Also, people are booing and one woman said "You suck." . Olive does her dance anyway because one of the head judges wants her to leave the stage.
