Parenting Classes: Beneficial or Useless? Parenthood is defined by two definitions. The first definition states that parenting is simply raising children. But can the term “parenthood” be formulated in such simple terms? Caring for a child is an overwhelming task for parents, young and old. All face seemingly similar challenges when it comes to raising children. Parents should have basic knowledge on how to take care of their children from their first steps until they grow up. Parenting classes offer just that. These courses offer knowledge from caring for children of different ages to how to connect them on an emotional level. All new parents should be required to take basic parenting classes; such classes will be beneficial to both parents and their children. The basics of parenting classes can have a wide range. Each is essential for new parents and even second parents. In "Parenting Classes: Pros and Cons," the article explains that classes can range from basic baby care, such as changing diapers, breastfeeding, bathing, to emergency care and first aid. Other parenting classes focus on older children and their parents in terms of development and expected behavior at each age. Parents could also learn how to manage stress before and after pregnancy, practice healthy discipline and manage behavior problems, raise healthy and generally happy children, and balance the family with respect and responsibility (Parenting classes-1). Most of this information is not known to new parents, or even those taking on a second job. Each varied course contains the basics of how to care for children in the best interests of themselves and their parents.
