    Is being attached to something in great abundance a bad thing? Well, it can be in some cases. There is no doubt that many people in today's society live in constant anxiety about losing their loved ones and cope with their anxiety in various ways. However, although many methods are accepted by society's standards for dealing with their stressors, some people have more extreme methods for dealing with their separation anxiety. For example, in “A Rose for Emily,” the main character, Emily Grierson, loses her father and fears a similar event will happen with her alleged lover. Because of this, it is easy for readers to assume that Emily is suffering from separation anxiety. In this story by William Faulkner, she takes what modern society would consider drastic measures to ensure that the two never leave her side. An example of this is offered when Emily Grierson's father dies due to old age.
