    In the quest for economic growth, many countries in many parts of the world are (re)formulating national laws to facilitate private investments (ZDA, 2011) . However, these investments can have varying consequences on the local economy. Access to housing is perhaps one of the most visible consequences as such developments attract people to the area in search of economic opportunities, ultimately triggering a demand for housing (Chandawe, 2008 ). This perfectly describes what happened recently in Zambia. Striving to make the country a hub of economic development, the Zambian government has strengthened its investment policy framework in recent years. In 2004, the country introduced the Private Sector Development Reform Program (PSDRP 1), the first phase of which aims to improve the investment climate and increase the contribution of the private sector to economic growth (NEPAD, 2011) . The program aimed to encourage private investment in infrastructure, business facilitation and economic diversification. In addition to this, the Public-Private Partnership Act was introduced to promote the effective delivery of social services by improving transparency, equity and long-term sustainability…removing unwanted restrictions on private sector participation to the provision of public infrastructure (GRZ, 2009: 4). . Such an investment climate has provided a significant boost to one of the major contributors to Zambia's economic growth, the mining sector (GRZ, 2011). Solwezi in the North West Province is considered one of the districts with the most active large-scale mining companies. In particular, this presented a housing problem in Solwezi which was undoubtedly boosted by increased economic activities in the neighborhood. The chapter also revealed the call to involve stakeholders in tackling the housing shortage and then addressed the problem which is the failure to realize or launch housing projects due to the challenges and constraints faced stakeholders are faced with. This chapter further provided the research objectives, research questions. , the methodology of the study, the importance of the study and the outline of the thesis. This layout is necessary because it gives a general overview of the entire thesis.
