Wickham and Lydia elope, becoming a social disgrace to the Bennet family name. Lydia thought Mr. Wickham had every intention of marrying her when they ran away together. Although he later found out, Mr. Wickham had no intention of marrying Lydia. Due to Lydia's misstep, the only other option would be to get married. For Mr. Wickham, his married life should only consist of class and money, no love will ever come out of his marriage to Lydia. This marriage shows that they do not have the capacity to have a relationship like Lydia's parents or Jane's. Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bennett try to cover up the immature reaction of running away with Mr. Wickham but not marrying him. They both offer Mr. Wickham money to marry Lydia so as not to give the Bennett family a bad name. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth's marriage contrasts with Lydia and Mr. Wickham's because of love, while Mr. Wickham cares more about money and social class.
