Essay / Sexual Exploitation of Women in India - 810
A woman is a woman but we have tried to define it in terms of relationships and use that emotion in the service of patriarchy. Her status as a woman is eclipsed by her identity as mother, sister, wife or daughter. Constitutionally, we may be a democracy, but this democratic spirit has not really seeped into our social life, which remains socially oppressive and culturally cruel. Our ancestors did what they could in providing us with a secular and progressive constitution, but very few of them believed that the keys to a successful model constitution lay elsewhere. In our social fabric which remains compartmentalized and carefully regimented, and where our moralities differ from each other. It is therefore essential that moral values move away from a secular and liberal perspective and do not aim to conquer the voices of freedom. The situation in India is alarming. Economic independence exposed women to sexual exploitation in offices and other workplaces. They became a salable product in advertisements. The job of a flight attendant is just that of a waitress or servant. There is a lack of education for women because older people think that women should get married and leave one day and according to most people in the society even in urban areas they think that girls are a burden and has to go there one day, so why spend money on studies. Emancipation does not mean the freedom to do what you want. It is a movement to receive self-respect and dignity. A woman gains respect by being honest and tied to some extent to tradition. Since learning and education became formal and institutionalized, men have claimed to control entire areas of knowledge: philosophy, law, literature, science...... middle of paper ......society .8. Ancient practices like sati, Jauhar, Devadasis are still practiced in most rural parts of India where they consider them as a ritual and perform the said rituals. Even though it has been abolished, rural populations do not consider it illegal and it is the young girl who pays the price.9. In my opinion this should stop and people should be informed about the evils of all these practices and people should be punished severely if they promote these kind of ancient practices to please the gods.10. Finally, there should be legal and constitutional measures and girls and women (even working women) should be aware of their legal and social rights, because most of them do not know and this is the reason why they cannot raise their voice against the mistreatment. which are distributed to them in rural and urban areas as well as in domestic and professional life..
