Webster's New Dictionary states that the definition of espionage is "the practice of spying or using spies to obtain information about the plans and activities, particularly of a foreign government or competing company.” (1999). Spies in World War II had very fun but at the same time very dangerous jobs, but they still led a good life. Spies were used to gather secret information to help their countries win the war. People became spies because they were loyal to their country. It was the spies who did the most work to help their country achieve victory. During World War II, there were many more female spies than men. Women had a big problem during the war because it was unexpected that they would be spies or have anything to do with anything because they were women. A woman who acted as a double agent could seduce the man in power on the opposing side and convince a country that she was on his side. Men had jobs like these too. They had to enter before a woman, create safe houses, make tools for certain missions, and provide what they needed to ensure they wouldn't be caught. Spies who were to help people in other countries were parachuted in so as not to be detected by the enemy. All spies knew the danger of their work, but they would do everything in their power to keep the people of their country safe. The spies had to face many dangerous things during the battle because they couldn't blow their own cover or have any risks. details that could lead them to abandon or fail their mission.
