Essay / Happiness Article Analysis: An Analysis of Happiness
The authors say: “If you're American and you're not having fun, it might just be your fault. But go on to say that when it comes to finding happiness, "the nature of the modern world has made it more difficult than ever." This creates conflict when reading and can affect how the reader will view the claim. One interpretation of the article could be seen as being easy to find happiness in a more modern world, and the other interpretation would be seen as being that the modern world makes it more difficult to find happiness. The authors also assert that “no American inherits happiness simply because of their genes, where they were born, or a sun-tuned brain.” Earlier in the article it was said that genes play a role in happiness: “Serotonin and dopamine are often viewed, simplistically, as feel-good neurotransmitters. The more you have, the happier you are. The authors talk about how genes affect happiness, which contradicts the fact that genes don't affect happiness.
