There are welding jobs everywhere, but the amount you would like to earn depends on where you are willing to work. In my hometown of Streator, one of the major welding fabrication shops is Vactor where the majority of our residents work. Entry-level pay for welders is typically $17/hour or more. Welding can be very hard on the body when safety precautions are not taken. All welders must wear safety equipment such as: safety glasses, welding mask with appropriate tint, gloves, flame retardant jacket, pants, boots and welding cap. The goal is to ensure the safety of the welder and those around them. Safety precautions are taken not only by welders but also by supervisors and managers. By law it is their job to manage the exhaust gases in the workshops, many welding shops have ventilation systems installed like the one in our welding shop. There are ways to not have a ventilation system; for example, vacuum cleaner workers wear specialized ventilation systems built into their welding helmets. Many of the health problems that older welders face could have been avoided if they had taken proper safety precautions when they were younger. The most commonly used welding process in manufacturing welding is mig because it is fast and efficient. Mig also leaves much less spatter, resulting in cleaner welds (Petkovsek).
