    Introduction When it comes to smoking, different countries have different attitudes towards the habit. Some countries have a strongly negative attitude towards smoking, while others do not. In the United States and the United Kingdom, smokers are considered social outcasts while in Hong Kong, the altitude towards smokers is not strict (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 2013) . However, the only similar attitude between the three countries is that they all disapprove of smoking. This article will explore the claim that "smokers in Britain and the United States are increasingly treated as social outcasts." Comment on this view, compare and contrast the attitude towards smoking in these two countries with that of China in Hong Kong. Since America, Britain and China collect a large portion of the taxes collected by tobacco companies, this shows that these certain countries still define smoking as a bad habit. However, their attitude towards this practice is completely different. According to the statement that "smokers in Britain and the United States are increasingly treated as social outcasts", this means that smokers are seen as outcasts. In other words, smoking is not only discouraged, but also considered a negative habit. Being the most powerful countries in the world, America and Britain raise their voices against smoking compared to other countries. Conversely, this does not necessarily mean that other countries support or advocate smoking in any way. This statement also does not mean that other countries are lenient towards the habit of smoking (Mueller and Frith, 2010).
