Essay / Why do students behave badly? - 1255
Every day in our lives we have rules to follow. When we don't follow the rules, we face consequences. For example, if a person speeds, they can get caught and pay a ticket. Middle school students grow and learn. They should not be expected to follow all the rules from the moment they are introduced. It takes time and training for students to learn. With time and structure, students will develop self-discipline. Teachers must be consistent when teaching classroom rules and procedures. These rules and procedures must be taught, repeated and reinforced. When students choose to follow the rules, they will face positive consequences and when they choose to break them, they will face negative consequences. Negative consequences should be progressive and preserve the dignity of students. They must be logical and natural. At the intermediate level, students should see the relationship between the rule and the consequences for breaking the rule.
