Arandilla recommends the use of “vivid, bright and cheerful” colors (p.2). Points will appear better with images than with text. Use text only when necessary and use basic vocabulary. Additionally, one of the biggest attractions for children is games and activities. However, keep the gender and age range of the target group in mind when creating these activities. In general, children seem to have short attention spans, so creative preloaders and visible navigation bars are essential (Rachel Arandilla, p.1-18). “Designing a children's website is extremely more difficult to develop and design, but more rewarding and fun. Designing for children can be difficult because of their unique wants, needs, limitations and abilities. However, creating effective websites for children can greatly help them learn and develop. For example, a child can learn math with games on a kid-friendly website. Yet, they won't be able to learn from these games if they don't understand how to start the game. These elements include: bright colors, limiting text, using games and activities, knowing your target age group, accommodating their short attention span, ease of navigation, and use of animated characters.
