  • Essay / Why social media has done more harm than good in...

The rapid growth of technology in our society has become more dominant than it was in the 17th and 18th centuries. Today, technology is used for almost everything in our daily lives. But the most common use of technology is in communication and industrialization. However, every good thing has its downside if it is overused, and since technology has become very dominant, it is used by both young and old people, but it is more predominant among today's young people . More so, technology has given birth to social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, my space, piazza.com, instagram, tango and last but not least, SMS. According to socialnetworking.procon.org, "47% of American adults used social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Classmates.com in 2011, up from 26% in 2008.[26] like these. , users can develop biographical profiles, communicate with friends and strangers, search and share thoughts, photos, music, links and much more” (procon.org. 1). Although these sites help many Americans connect with family and friends, have we really thought about how these sites discourage some students from spending less time on their books, how young adults are losing their marriage, the indecent behavior they promote and How has this increased texting and driving in our society? Obviously not! To begin with, many of us may agree that social networking sites are a prime source of information for some Americans who prefer to subscribe to online newspapers, Yahoo news and more. As a result, many students who use social media use the Internet for many things, from homework to research papers. Of course, it is an undeniable fact that...... middle of paper ......e has increased the divorce rate among young adult marriages and promotes indecent behavior. Again, twenty-eight percent of car accidents are caused by users of social networking sites who are texting and driving. So, without reservation, social networking sites are gradually taking over many aspects of our lives in more negative ways and if not addressed soon, they will become a major concern of our society.Works CitedProCon.org. “Are social networking sites good for our society?
